Mission

The Green Mountain Club is the founder and maintainer of the Long Trail - the oldest long distance hiking trail in America. Established in 1910 to build this trail stretching the length of Vermont, the club now also maintains the Appalachian Trail in Vermont and trails in the Northeast Kingdom in its mission to "make the Vermont mountains play a larger part in the life of the people." Trail Alert: Long Trail Reroute on Duxbury Road

Additional construction is planned on Duxbury Road just south of the Winooski River Footbridge. The road will be closed to traffic and hikers this Thursday and Friday, 7/9 – 7/10, from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m., and no reroute is available at this time.

Please plan your hiking schedule accordingly, or call GMC for the updated shuttle list to navigate around this closure. Please do not cross onto private property in an attempt to bypass the road closure, out of respect for landowners in the area. The road should be reopened by Friday evening, but this is an evolving alert and we will update the hiking public as we have more information.
