Mike returned to his home state to join the GMC’s staff as executive director in 2014. Prior to working for the GMC, Mike served as executive director of the Forest Guild, a national organization of professional foresters dedicated to practicing and promoting responsible forest stewardship. In 1996, Mike completed a southbound AT thru-hike and finished the Long Trail in 2004. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in natural resources from Johnson State College and a master of forestry degree from Yale University. As a member of the Board of Directors of Forest Stewardship Council – US, Mike supports third-party certification of sustainable forestry practices and serves as the organization’s treasurer. In his spare time, Mike enjoys tinkering with old cars and motorcycles and running on the trails and back roads of the Mad River Valley. Mike and his wife, Jennifer, met as Peace Corps volunteers in Jamaica and now make their home in Moretown along with their two dogs.
