Shelter Report

  • This is the round trip time driving to and from the trailhead and the time you spent hiking to or from your shelter. Please round to the nearest quarter. 2hours 15minutes is equal to 2.25 hours, 2hours 30 minutes is equal to 2.5 hours, etc..
  • This is the total amount of time you spent working at your shelter. Please round to the nearest quarter. 2hours 15minutes is equal to 2.25 hours, 2hours 30 minutes is equal to 2.5 hours, etc..
  • Shelter/Tent Platform Work Completed


  • The washpit is a strainer box for hikers to remove food/waste solids from their cooking and dishwater. Please describe the condition of your washpit. Is the box solidly built? Is the mesh/straining wire in good condition? Does the box appear to be used by hikers?
  • Privy Checklist


  • Please describe the condition of the stain/paint on the exterior of the privy.
  • Inside of privies there should be two signs on waterproof paper: Leave No Trace; Instructions on Privy Type. Are these present?
  • Estimate how much space is left between the top of the crib and the top of the waste pile if it were flattened out. It is important that you measure only to the top of the crib structure and not to the height of the toilet seat.
  • 1/4 bale, 1/2 bale, 3/4 bale, etc....
  • Are extra shavings in a trashbag underneath the stairs? Behind the privy? Inside of the privy in a trash can?
  • Scan the privy exterior for rot, failed chicken wire, external trash, broken door handle, exterior holes, broken lid to resting side, etc....
  • Signs


  • A Site Map is a local map of the shelter, privy, access trails, the Long Trail, tenting area/platform, water source, etc....
  • Log/Register that lives at the shelter. Should be in a storage box on the shelter wall or in a gallon ziploc bag. Logs are typically composition-style notebooks.
  • GMC's Leave No Trace on Waterproof Paper should be stapled to an interior wall in the shelter.

  • Directional signs are those that give directions of trail, to shelter, to road crossing, etc... Directional signs may have mileage, trail names, etc...
