Seasonal Hiking Information Specialist

GMC is seeking a friendly, dynamic individual to work 1-2 days a week from mid-May to mid-October in our Visitor Center. Weekend and select holidays required. $11 to $13 per hour. Great working environment. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Responsibilities include: greeting visitors; assisting them with hike planning; providing education regarding the Long Trail, Leave No Trace, and hikeSafe; provide up to date information regarding trail and shelter conditions as well as the surrounding area; conveying GMC’s mission and benefits of membership; sales of GMC publications and other retail products; daily reconciliations of sales and credit card transactions; answering phone calls and e-mail inquiries; processing online orders.

Qualifications: excellent customer service skills; computer proficiency; hiking experience and personal knowledge of local hiking trails desirable; prior retail experience preferred; flexible schedule preferred.

The Green Mountain Club is the founder and maintainer of the Long Trail - the oldest long distance hiking trail in America. Established in 1910 to build this trail stretching the length of Vermont, the club now also maintains the Appalachian Trail in Vermont and trails in the Northeast Kingdom in its mission to "make the Vermont mountains play a larger part in the life of the people."
