Over 60 Hike Series: Mt. Pisgah (via Mt. Pisgah South Trail)
Saturday, October 4 | 9:00 a.m.
Mt. Pisgah South Trail, Barton,VT
Join Author and Hiker Philip Werner in this installment of the Over 60 Hike Series to Mt. Pisgah.
Mount Pisgah has stunning clifftop views of Lake Willoughby and Mt Hor on the other side of the lake. Sculpted by glaciers, the sides of Pisgah and Hor drop dramatically to the lake and then continue underwater to form the deepest lake that is entirely in the state of Vermont (over 300 feet in places.) We will follow the South Trail, past Pulpit Rock, and up to the summit and return by the same route. Total distance 3.9 miles with 1590 feet of elevation gain. Hike time: 3 hours. Limit of 8 participants; pre-registration required. Meet at Mount Pisgah South Trailhead in Orleans, near Lake Willoughby.
This hike is for anyone over 60 who wants to incorporate more hiking into their lives. Any level of experience is welcome. Philip Werner is a Green Mountain Club board member and author of Hiking Over 60: A Modern Guide to Hiking Gear and Techniques for Active Adults. He’s an experienced hiking guide who has hiked and backpacked extensively in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Hiking and Yoga
Saturday, October 4 | 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Stowe Pinnacle Trail and GMC Visitor Center
Join us for an invigorating morning hike and therapeutic yoga class post-hike at the Green Mountain Club’s Visitor Center! We’ll hike the Stowe Pinnacle Trail to the overlook, a moderate 3.2-mile round trip hike with 1600 feet of elevation gain. The trail is rated between moderate and difficult, and will keep a 2ish mph pace. After hiking, we’ll return to the Visitor Center for a 1.5-hour yoga practice. The first half of the practice will embody Yin yoga, using longer-held floor-based postures to specifically stretch and stimulate your Yin tissues (deep connective tissues like ligaments, tendons, and fascia), releasing blocked energy and allowing connective tissues to respond and gradually release. The second half will embody Restorative Yoga, a contemplative practice using blocks, bolsters, blankets, and straps to support the body, releasing deep tension in the body and mind.
