Mike’s lifelong passion for the trails started as a child when his dad dragged him onto the Long Trail at Sherburne Pass and was sealed at 17 when he summited Denali. He grew up in Connecticut, graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Oregon, then moved to Massachusetts in the mid-80s. In 1990 he married Rachel and settled in West Boylston, MA, where he works as an IT Consultant and is almost finished raising three future trail stewards with Rachel. In central Mass, Mike currently serves on four other nonprofit boards including Wachusett Greenways and the Greater Worcester Land Trust. He is also a Massachusetts Midstate Trail Maintainer and Sawyer.
Mike joined the GMC in 2015, having been drawn back to Vermont by long-time friends and Worcester Section members. Since then, he has jumped in with both feet, leading section events, serving on committees, and participating in the section’s weekend-long LT/AT maintenance trips to Stratton Pond. As a director, he will strive to help execute GMC’s strategic plan, spend time with GMC folks on the trails, promote and improve the LT, and become an LT end-to-ender.
