Speaker Series
For more than ninety years, the Long Trail has inspired Vermonters to seek adventure in the Green Mountains and beyond. The James P. Taylor Winter Series, named after the man who first envisioned the Long Trail, brings such adventures to you through stories and photographs. Join us each winter for inspiring and fascinating presentations that will transport you to mountains and waterways near and far.

Educational Programs & Workshops

The Green Mountain Club offers a variety of workshops and programs to help you gain skills for traveling safely and confidently in the Vermont backcountry and beyond. Discover ways to protect yourself and the mountain environment through workshops in wilderness first aid, trail maintenance, and outdoor ethics. Improve your cooking skills, proficiency with map and compass, and learn about natural history. GMC promotes education and safe outdoor recreation consistent with the character of the Green Mountains. Click here for a current listing of workshops and programs.

Long Trail Bound 
Long Trail Bound is a website, resource center, community forum, and activity guide for educators. The site provides resources and support for educators interested in teaching outdoor skills, backcountry appreciation, and stewardship through creative hands-on activities. Group Education Programs 
The Green Mountain Club Group Outreach Coordinator offers educational programs for groups.  These programs could include information on Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, Alpine Ecology, How to prepare for a hike on the Long Trail, or a custom program prepared for your group.  If interested check out the link below or call 802-241-8327 or email groups@greenmountainclub.org

Workshops, programs, and events will vary in location. All programs held at the Green Mountain Club will be located in the Herrick Office Building conference room or the Back 40 Lodge. Some trips travel out of state or into Canada. See the individual event for specific location information.

Age Requirements
In order to maximize the experience of workshop participants, GMC has a minimum age policy. The minimum age that workshop participants must meet is noted with each workshop description. Age ranges are assigned based on workshop subject matter and level of supervision available. Please note that an adult may be required to accompany minors under 18 – Please contact GMC for more information.

Fees for Education Programs
The workshop fee may include lodging and/or camping, lunch and other meals – see workshop description for details. Please contact GMC for information on what each workshop fee includes. GMC members – ask about your member discount. Not a member? Join and save on workshop fees. Please contact us for fees for our private guiding services.

Cancellations and Refunds
Refunds (minus a $10 processing fee) will be provided if cancellations are made prior to the registration deadline; cancellations made after the registration deadline will be refunded 50% of the workshop fee only if the space is subsequently filled. There are no refunds for reservations cancelled less than three days in advance of the workshop start date. GMC reserves the right to cancel a program at any time, in which case GMC will notify registrants and a full refund will be provided. Please note: workshop dates and venues are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.
